Phil Dressing – Deputy Chair
Phil Dressing was educated at Caulfield Grammar and later pursued Graduate studies in Risk Management at Swinburne University. Phil spent much of his career in the Occupational Health and Safety field, managing industrial risk entities, including at Pilkington Australasia. Seeking a sea change, he transitioned to managing the Phillip Island Golf Club, followed by a role as a “host” at the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. In 2017, he became the General Manager of the National Vietnam Veterans Museum, retiring from the role in 2023. Phil is a Rotarian for nearly 30 years, a Paul Harris Fellow, and an Honorary Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia.
Bob Elworthy AM – Secretary
Bob is a Vietnam veteran who has been involved in the Vietnam veteran movement for more than two decades, and is currently the President of the Victorian Branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia. Originally from Ballarat, Bob had a 20-plus-year military career during which he served in Singapore, South Vietnam and Hong Kong. After serving for 6 years in the ranks, he attended the Officer Cadet School, Portsea in 1973, and was awarded the Governor General’s Medal for graduating first in his class. Bob left the Army with the rank of Major.
After his Army time, Bob worked for the Defense Signals Directorate (DSD) and with the RAAF Logistics Command in Melbourne after declining an offer to move to Canberra with DSD (now the Australian Signals Directorate). In 2017 Bob was recognized for his work in the veteran community with the award of a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). He has been Secretary of the National Vietnam Veterans Museum for 5 years.
He lives in Montmorency with his wife Lyn; they have two adult children.
John Methven AM Museum Founder
John is a distinguished veteran who served in the Australian Army, joining the regular forces in 1962. He served in Vietnam as a platoon commander in 1967 and 1968, demonstrating leadership and dedication in challenging circumstances. In addition to his military service, John was the founder of our Museum, an institution dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of Vietnam veterans. His significant contributions were recognized in 2001 when he was awarded the Order of Australia for his service and commitment to veterans’ causes. John’s work continues to impact the veteran community and ensure that the sacrifices of those who served are remembered.
