18 August each year is the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, now synonymous with Vietnam Veterans Day. At the museum, a special commemoration event is held to remember the sacrifice and service of Vietnam veterans and to especially remember those who fell.
In 2014, the museum will host several activities on Monday 18 August. A commemorative ceremony, open to the public, will be conducted, with a special guest speaker, Ode and Last Post. For the first time, the event will be held in the museum’s new Remembrance and Valour Gallery. In addition, commemorative plaques designed for the Museum’s Garden of Reflection, will be unveiled – one to commemorate C Company 6 RAR, one to commemorate the service of the Australian Red Cross and another to the 8th Field Ambulance. After refreshments have been served, the Red Cross will open its commemorative garden bed near the Garden of Reflection.
